Charges have been laid after police say two men were assaulted waiting to get into a bar in Downtown Guelph early Saturday morning.

Police say the two were in line, when they were approached by a third man not known to them and an argument ensued.

One of the two waiting men was punched in the face as a result, while the second was picked up and thrown to the ground when he tried to intervene. Police say the man thrown to the ground hit his head and reportedly lost consciousness briefly.

He was brought to hospital for treatment, and both later went to the police station to report the incident.

Police say a 33-year-old Guelph man was arrested Saturday afternoon. He is facing charges of assault and assault causing bodily harm.
