A Guelph man faces assault and weapons charges after an Uber driver was reportedly attacked Thursday, report Guelph police.

They say the alleged victim called police just before 9 p.m. He said he had driven a female from an address in Waterloo to a plaza near Willow Road and Westwood Road, where she got into another car. A man reportedly exited that car and angrily approached the victim’s vehicle, asking why he was driving his girlfriend around.

The man opened the victim’s door and punched him in the face, then pulled up his shirt to reveal a knife hidden in his waistband while threatening to kill the victim.

The suspect was later arrested by police in another jurisdiction and turned over to the Guelph police.

A 26-year-old is charged with assault, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats. He will appear in a Guelph court March 10.
