A Hamilton male was arrested on several charges after an off-duty police officer spotted a shoplifter at a Guelph business.
Police were called to a store on Woodlawn Road West at 4 p.m. Sunday. The off-duty officer observed a male placing items inside a motorcycle helmet and then followed him from the store. Officers arrived a short time later and placed the male under arrest.
During a search incident to arrest police recovered stolen property and a small amount of suspected methamphetamine. Investigation revealed the male had arrived at the store on a stolen motorcycle.
A 32-year-old Guelph male is charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000, theft under $5,000, possessing a controlled substance, breaching probation and driving while suspended. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.
