Man accused of driving 145 km/h in an 80 zone while passing school bus

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On June 24, 2019, at approximately 8:15 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was travelling northbound on Wellington Road 29 near Side Road 30 while conducting radar.

The officer observed a white sport utility vehicle (SUV) also travelling northbound in front of him, pullout and a pass a school bus as well as another vehicle at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 145 km/h.

Fifty-one-year-old Andrei Sabin Gheorghe of Guelph has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Offences Court on Sept. 4, 2019.

The driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
