A Guelph male faces several charges after reportedly kicking a police officer in the face while being arrested on a weapons charge early Saturday.

Guelph police were searching for a male after a reported disturbance in the area of Gordon Street and Kortright Road West. The male was stopped approximately 1 a.m. and provided a false name, police report.

The male became very agitated while speaking officers, flailing his arms around and causing a 20-centimetre knife to fall from within the waistband of his pants. The male was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, but continued to resist. As he was being placed in the cruiser he kicked one of the officers in the chest and face.

Investigation revealed the male is currently bound by conditions not to possess any knives except for the purpose of cooking or eating.

A 24-year-old Guelph male is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, assault with intent to resist arrest, obstructing police and failing to comply with a release order. He will appear in a Guelph bail court Monday.
