Three motorists were arrested for impaired driving in Guelph on the weekend, including one who already had outstanding impaired driving charges.

At 4:40 p.m. Friday, officers were investigating a report of a possible impaired driver when they located a vehicle pulling into a driveway near Windsor Street and Balmoral Drive. Officers spoke to the driver, who had a strong odour of alcoholic beverage on his breath and was showing signs of impairment.

The man was arrested and transported to the police station, where testing indicated he had nearly four times the legal limit of alcohol on his breath. A 32-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving. He has similar outstanding charges from August.

Approximately 12:35 a.m. Sunday, an officer conducted a traffic stop at Willow Road and Imperial Road North. The driver registered a fail on a roadside device and was taken to the station, where testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

Approximately 3:15 a.m. Monday, police were called for a possible impaired driver in the parking lot of a downtown business. Officers located the vehicle and could detect a strong odour of alcoholic beverage coming from the driver.

When officers asked the man to hand over the car keys, he instead attempted to insert a key into the ignition. The man was verbally abusive to officers and refused several demands to provide a breath sample.
