A man faces charges after a knife was brandished during an argument in a downtown restaurant Monday evening.

Approximately 6:15 p.m. police were called to a business near Macdonell and Wyndham streets. Two males were involved in a loud argument, during which one of the males pulled out a 15-centimetre knife and began gesturing with it.

The man left the business and went to another nearby, where he consumed an alcoholic drink and left without paying. He was located by police a short distance away and observed to be wearing a large knife in a sheath on his hip.

A 43-year-old Guelph man is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, fraud and breaching probation.
