Theft of catalytic converters continues to be a problem in Guelph, with two more stolen this week from vehicles at an automotive dealership.

Staff from a dealership on Woodlawn Road West contacted Guelph police Tuesday morning, reporting the exhaust components had been removed from two pickup trucks on the weekend.

Police services across North America have reported a steep increase in thefts of catalytic converters during the past year. In Guelph there have been dozens of such thefts during 2021. Residents are encouraged to park their vehicles indoors if possible or in well-lit areas, and to report any suspicious people or vehicles especially overnight in areas where vehicles are left unattended.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Const. Abdullah Eidokheil at 519-824-1212, ext. 7415, email him at [email protected], leave an anonymous message for Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or leave an anonymous tip online at www.csgw.tips.
