Police blocked off a section of Huron Street Wednesday evening during negotiations with a suspect who was ultimately charged with causing a disturbance and two counts of breach of probation.

There was a heavy police presence in part of The Ward on Wednesday evening, prompted by what began as a neighbour dispute.

Police were called to the area of Huron and Elizabeth Streets at about 4:30 p.m. after a man was reported to be screaming obscenities at neighbours and passersby.

Investigation revealed the man is on probation with a condition not to have contact with some of those same neighbours, a police news release explains.

When officers arrived, the man reportedly went inside. He turned himself over to police following more than two hours of negotiation and was arrested without incident.

A 42-year-old Guelph man is charged with causing a disturbance and two counts of breaching a probation order.
