A Guelph man, 48, is charged with impaired driving following a Wednesday morning traffic stop after his parking performance caught the attention of police.

Police were conducting enforcement outside a Speedvale Avenue East business at about 11 a.m. when they saw a man leave the business and get into the driver’s seat of a vehicle which was parked on an angle.

During a subsequent traffic stop, officers allegedly detected an odour of alcoholic beverage on the man’s breath. According to a police news release, the accused also failed a roadside breath test and was taken to the police station for further testing.

Those tests, police say, confirmed he had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

In addition to the charge, the man’s licence was automatically suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for a week.

“The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to always consume alcohol and cannabis responsibly,” states the news relese. “Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home.

“Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.”
