A man and woman face theft and drug charges after an off-duty Guelph police officer foiled a significant theft Saturday, reports police.
Approximately 3:15 p.m. the officer was shopping at the business on Woodlawn Road West when he saw a man leaving with more than $2,600 in product. He approached the man as he was loading the items into a car and placed him under arrest for theft. The man initially provided a false name.
On-duty officers arrived a short time later and continued the arrest of the man and a woman who was sitting in the driver’s seat. A search of the vehicle revealed quantities of suspected methamphetamine, cocaine, psilocybin and fentanyl as well as digital scales, drug paraphernalia and multiple cellphones.
A 36-year-old man and 25-year-old woman, both from London, are charged with theft under $5,000, possessing stolen property and possession for the purpose of trafficking. The man is also charged with obstructing police and was held for a bail hearing Monday.
