OPP investigating weapons incident in Mount Forest

On Aug. 22, 2020 at approximately 4 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a weapons incident at a business on Main Street North in the Town of Mount Forest.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a single projectile, which is believed to be a bullet, pierced the window of a restaurant and came to rest on the floor. 

There were customers and staff inside the business at the time of the incident and no one was injured.

This is believed to be an isolated incident and there are no concerns for public safety at this time.

Officers canvassed homes in the surrounding rural area and were advised that it sounded like someone was possibly target shooting around the same time that the incident occurred.

Wellington County OPP along with the OPP Forensic Identification Unit continue to investigate.
