OPP locate vehicle, gas theft suspect

On Jan. 24, 2020 just prior to 1:20 a.m., an adult male stole a vehicle from a commercial parking lot located near the intersection of Gordon Street and Wellington Street East in the City of Guelph. The vehicle had been left running while the owner quickly ran into a store.

The male drove the vehicle to a gas station located near the intersection of Clair Road East and Gordon Street in the City of Guelph. At 1:40 a.m., he pumped $91.48 worth of gas, and drove away without paying.

On Jan. 27, 2020, police located the vehicle in a commercial parking lot located near the intersection of Woolwich Street and Woodlawn Road East in the City of Guelph.

Subsequent investigation resulted in the identification of the suspect. On Jan. 29, 2020, the male was located by members of the Ontario Provincial Police and arrested. He was then transported to Guelph to be processed.

A 30-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:
    •    Theft under $5,000
    •    Possession of stolen property over $5,000
    •    Motor vehicle theft

He will appear in court on March 3, 2020.
