Police deploy energy weapon after stolen vehicle driven at officer

On May 2, 2020 at 9:15 p.m., members of the Guelph Police Service Tactics And Rescue Unit found a stolen vehicle with stolen licence plates and stolen validation stickers in the parking lot of a residential building located near the intersection of Silvercreek Parkway North and Westwood Road in the City of Guelph.

As an officer approached the vehicle on foot, the vehicle began driving towards the officer in an attempt to flee. The officer was able to utilize a conductive energy weapon through an open passenger window, which struck an adult male passenger. The adult female driver then became cooperative and put the vehicle in park. They were both subsequently arrested.

The male was treated at the scene by paramedics and did not sustain any major injuries.

A search incident to arrest revealed 4.51 grams of crystal methamphetamine in the female’s purse.

A 23-year-old South Bruce female has been charged with:
    •    Occupant stolen motor vehicle
    •    Possession of stolen property over $5,000
    •    Possession of stolen property under $5,000
    •    Possession of a controlled substance

She will appear in court on Aug. 18.

A 26-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:
    •    Occupant stolen motor vehicle
    •    Possession of stolen property over $5,000
    •    Possession of stolen property under $5,000

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing and will appear in court on May 4.
