Police pull over city bus to arrest man for drug possession

Was supposed to be at home according to release conditions on other charges

Guelph Police pulled over a city bus to make an arrest just after midnight Wednesday.

Police say that at 12:10 a.m. Thursday, members of the Guelph Police Service High Enforcement Action Team (H.E.A.T.) saw a man leaving a residential complex located near the intersection of York Road and Elizabeth Street in the City of Guelph. The male then boarded a city bus.

The man was currently on a judicial release order in regards to 29 separate criminal offences in relation to drugs, break and enters, and stolen vehicles, police said. The order contained several conditions including a curfew where the male must remain in his residence from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Just before 12:18 a.m. police initiated a traffic stop with the bus near the intersection of Stone Road East and Victoria Road South. The male was subsequently arrested.

A search revealed 0.31 grams of crystal methamphetamine valued at $30.

A 24-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:
- Fail to comply with judicial release order
- Possession of a controlled substance – schedule I
- Fail to comply with probation

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
