Second woman charged in cruiser ramming

A second Guelph woman has been arrested in connection with an incident in which a Guelph police cruiser was rammed by a stolen van.

Just before 2 p.m. Aug. 17, officers responded to a driving complaint near the downtown. Investigation revealed the Dodge Caravan had been reported stolen.

As officers attempted to stop the van at Wellington Street East and Wyndham Street South the driver intentionally drove into the passenger side of the cruiser. He then reversed over a traffic island and ran a red light at Wellington Street and Gordon Street. Officers did not pursue in the interest of public safety.

A 29-year-old Guelph woman observed getting out of the van during the incident was arrested last week. On Saturday morning a second female who had been in the van was spotted downtown and arrested. The 35-year-old is charged with being an occupant in a stolen motor vehicle and breaching probation.

The investigation is ongoing to identify the driver.
