An Arthur female faces impaired driving charges after she decided against taking a taxi home early Friday.

Guelph police were alerted just after 4 a.m. to a possible impaired driver in the area of Woodlawn Road West and Silvercreek Parkway North. The vehicle was located and stopped and officers immediately detected an odour of alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath.

Investigation revealed a taxi had been called to a business in the area for a woman heading to Arthur. However a short time later she asked to be returned to her vehicle so she could drive home instead.

The woman was arrested and returned to the police station, where breath tests revealed she had more than three times the legal amount of alcohol in her system.

A 48-year-old Arthur woman is charged with impaired driving. Her driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the rental vehicle she was driving was seized for 14 days.
