A Guelph man faces several charges after a stolen pickup was driven through the front of a business Friday night, Guelph police report.

Approximately 11:30 p.m., police were alerted to a break and enter at a business near Elmira Road North and Massey Road. A man entered the fenced compound and reportedly stole a pickup truck.

The owner of the business was able to track the vehicle via GPS and led officers to a plaza on Downey Road. As officers were enroute, they received an update the truck had left the plaza and was stopped nearby.

A male was located trying to get into a taxi and arrested following a short foot pursuit. Investigation caused officers to return to the plaza where the truck initially was reported to have stopped. There they located a business with extensive damage and determined the truck had been reversed through the front of the business, causing approximately $10,000 in damage.

Video surveillance showed a man entering the business and removing the cash register drawer and two tablets.

During a search of the individual, officers located two tablets, cash and coins, various tools and a small amount of suspected methamphetamine.

A 25-year-old Guelph man is charged with two counts of break and enter, theft of a motor vehicle, possessing stolen property over $5,000, possessing stolen property under $5,000, possessing break-in instruments, mischief over $5,000, possessing a controlled substance and failing to appear.

He was held for a bail hearing and has been released to appear in a Guelph court Feb. 14.
