Stolen wallet results in identity theft

Several bank accounts and credit cards were created in the victim’s name, police say

Some time between 6 p.m. on Nov. 27 and 7 a.m. on Nov. 28, 2019, a vehicle parked outside a residence located near the intersection of Eastview Road and Starwood Drive in the City of Guelph was entered. Numerous items were taken including Ray-Ban sunglasses (valued at $350), Maui Jim sunglasses (valued at $350) and a black metal security wallet (valued at $100) containing credit cards, debit card, drivers licence, health card and SIN card.

On Nov. 29, at 8:13 a.m., an attempt was made to use one of credit cards at a store located near the intersection of Eramosa Road and Stevenson Street North, however the attempt was unsuccessful as it had already been cancelled.

On March 17, 2020, it was reported to the Guelph Police Service that several bank accounts and credit cards have now been created in the victim’s name.
