Guelph Police Service dealt with 209 calls for service

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

Police make arrest in theft investigation
On June 29, 2019 at 7:15 a.m., Guelph Police in the area of Carden Street observed a female matching the description of a woman that was being sought in relation to a theft. The woman was believed to be responsible for stealing prescription glasses from an 85-year-old man at the Tim Hortons on Woolwich Street on June 28, 2019. The woman provided police with improper information in regard to her identity during the investigation.

The 33-year-old Woodstock woman has been charged with theft under $5,000, obstruct police and two counts of breach probation. She was held for a bail hearing and later released with a July 19, 2019 court date.

Four arrested on warrants
A 36-year-old Guelph man arrested on a warrant for fail to appear in court. Continued investigation also discovered he had breached a court imposed condition and he was further charged with breach recognizance. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

A 29-year-old Elora man arrested on a warrant for breach undertaking. He was later released with a court date of Aug. 2, 2019.

A 35-year-old Guelph man arrested on a warrant for theft under $5,000 and breach recognizance. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

A 30-year-old Guelph man arrested on a Halton warrant. He was turned over to Halton Police.

Theft from cars
On June 29, 2019, the Guelph Police received three reports of theft from cars. The locations were Wyndham Street, Woolwich Street and Burns Drive.

This crime is easily avoidable. Please lock your cars and do not leave belongings visible. If you do become a victim of this crime you can report it through the Guelph Police online reporting portal.

Road safety enforcement
On June 29, 2019, the Guelph Police Traffic unit set up speed enforcement at various locations throughout the day. The areas of Woodlawn Road West, Edinburgh Road South, Victoria Road North and Goodwin Avenue all saw enforcement. A total of 19 speeding tickets were issued between the four locations.
