PUSLINCH – Catalytic converter thefts are nothing new.
But the latest case in the Aberfoyle area has provincial police shaking their heads.
Wellington County OPP report that on Thursday night a gravel pit was broken into and thieves took catalytic converters from several work trucks.
"What is unusual about this incident, is that thieves used a piece of on-set equipment to flip the trucks on their sides to access the exhaust system, causing much more damage to the vehicle than what would be necessary," said OPP Cst. Josh Cunningham.
In all, Cunningham said seven full-size pickup trucks were tampered with.
Catalytic converters are part of a vehicle's exhaust system. The precious metals found inside – palladium, platinum and rhodium – are said to be valuable to recyclers.
Investigators continue to work the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
