Three arrested for stealing metal from business

Two males and a female face several charges after they were caught on video early Saturday apparently stealing metal from behind a local business.

Approximately 3:10 a.m. Guelph police received a call from the owner of a business on York Road near Watson Road North. The caller advised three people were behind the business removing copper wire and plumbing components from various machines behind the business. The caller could see this on surveillance video.

Police attending the area several minutes later saw the three parties walking on York Road. One of the males was observed to have copper wires hanging from his coat and the three were arrested.

They were found to be in possession of copper wire, a small motor and brass plumbing components. The recovered property had a total value of approximately $100.

Officers recovered a large screwdriver from one of the males, and a small amount of crystal methamphetamine and identity documents from the other male.

A 49-year-old male, 47-year-old male and 32-year-old female, all from Guelph, are jointly charged with theft under $5,000 and possessing stolen property. The 49-year-old male is also charged with possessing break-in instruments. The 47-year-old male is also charged with possessing a stolen credit card, possessing a controlled substance and breach of probation. The 32-year-old female is also charged with breach of probation.

The two males were held in custody and will appear in bail court on Tuesday. The female will appear in a Guelph court June 4.
