Three years later, Belwood man's murder trial set to start

A jury trial will begin next month for a man accused of killing a 74-year-old in Belwood on Canada Day three years ago.

Kyle Gemin is charged with second-degree murder in the death of George Gemin in 2020. Jury selection began Tuesday in Guelph Superior Court.

Media reports say the two are related.

The trial is scheduled to start Monday, Sept. 11, and is anticipated to last five to six weeks.

Provincial police say officers were called to a home in the on Poplar Place in Belwood's Maple Leaf Acres trailer park July 1, 2020, around 11:30 a.m. to check on the well-being of an occupant.

Police say when officers got inside, they found a deceased man. Police determined it was a homicide.

Kyle, who was 31 at the time, was arrested a day later.

He was initially charged with first-degree murder, but the charge was later reduced to second-degree.
