A Guelph man faces a variety of charges following a traffic stop in Downtown Guelph Wednesday afternoon.
Members of the Guelph Police Service Break Enter Auto Theft (BEAT) Unit were downtown when they observed a male known to them entering a parked motor vehicle. Officers knew the male to be bound by several driving prohibitions and conducted a traffic stop.
Investigation revealed the motor vehicle had been stolen from a Guelph address earlier in the day and had two different licence plates affixed, both of which were also stolen. A search of the vehicle revealed two more stolen licence plates inside.
The male was searched incident to arrest and officers discovered a throwing knife and quantities of controlled substances including suspected crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl and morphine pills.
A 32-year-old Guelph male is charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000, three counts of possessing stolen property under $5,000, three counts of driving while prohibited, possessing a concealed weapon, three counts of possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking and failing to comply with an undertaking.
He was held for a bail hearing Thursday.
