A male and female face charges after an incident Monday evening in which a Guelph Police Service officer was kicked and spat on, reports Guelph police.

The officer was not injured.

At approximately 7:50 p.m., police were dispatched to a hotel near Silvercreek Parkway North and Woodlawn Road to investigate a dropped 911 call. Police spoke to a female who was the owner of the involved cellphone and while speaking to her police came to believe a wanted male was inside the room.

Officers entered the room and located the male hiding. While officers tried to arrest the male on an outstanding warrant, he refused to comply with demands and continually squirmed and clenched his arms. While officers were placing the male in a cruiser, he twice kicked one of the arresting officers in the shin.

The male also spat on the same officer’s chest and on a face shield the officer was wearing.

Investigation revealed the male was on bail with conditions including to remain in his residence at all times and not to communicate with the female who made the accidental 911 call.

A 34-year-old Etobicoke male is charged with assault police, assault with intent to resist arrest, breach of probation and breach of a release order.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing on Tuesday.

The female involved in the call, a 32-year-old Guelph resident, was arrested for obstruct police after she tried to prevent the male’s arrest by blocking doors and impeding officers. She will appear in a Guelph court May 25.
