A Downtown worker gave chase to a man who was rummaging through his vehicle on Wednesday afternoon, after an app alerted him to his alarm going off, say police.

Two men smashed a vehicle window in a Downtown parkade shortly after 4 p.m., causing about $1,000 damage, explains a news release. After receiving an alert on his phone, the man made his way to the parkade in time to see a man inside his vehicle.

The suspect fled and was chased by the victim until he lost sight of him.

Guelph police responded and located the suspect. A review of surveillance footage led police to identify the second suspect, who was found elsewhere Downtown and also arrested.

The victim’s property was recovered.

A 34-year-old man and a 27-year-old man, both of Guelph, are jointly charged with theft under $5,000, mischief under $5,000 and possessing stolen property. The older man was also charged with breach of a probation order.
