Victim's name released in fatal Hwy 89 collision

Oct. 25 update

TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH - The driver involved in the motor vehicle collision has been identified as 74-year-old Wayne Schultz of East Zorra-Tavistock Township.

Wellington County OPP continues to investigate the cause of the collision.

Original Oct. 23 release

TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH - (Tuesday) at approximately 9:48 a.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic collision involving two motor vehicles on Highway 89 near Side Road 15 in Southgate Township.

Wellington County OPP along with Dufferin Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Wellington North Fire Service attended the scene. One of the drivers was pronounced dead at scene. A passenger and another driver were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the collision is currently being investigated by OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) and Highway 89 between Side Road 15 and East/West Luther Townline will remain closed until further notice.

The deceased will not be identified until next of kin have been notified.
