Police have shut down a section of a south end road, following an incident involving a waste collection truck and downed traffic signal poles.

The incident was reported at about 8:35 a.m. on Thursday, prompting officials to shut down Clair Road West between Gordon Street and Clairfields Drive.

Scott Tracey, spokesperson for Guelph police, said he anticipates the road will be closed for at least the morning as crews work to repair the wiring and damaged utility poles.

No injuries were reported.

The wires, Tracey noted, were not live power lines but rather telecommunications wires.

Several people have posted on social media about lost internet service. A post on the Rogers website notes a service disruption for cable, internet and home phone lines in "parts of Guelph and surrounding area."

Efforts to reach a company spokesperson for additional details weren't immediately successful.

No timeline for an "expected resolution" is provided in the Rogers post.
