COUNTY OF WELLINGTON - Roads committee awarded the pavement overlay on various county roads to Cox Construction Ltd. of Guelph for $1.5 million.

At Tuesday's virtual meeting, the county's roads committee awarded the tender to Cox Construction Ltd. for having the lowest bidding at $1,538,279.79.

The tender was for the supply and placement of approximately 13,820 tonnes of asphalt, 3,990 tonnes of shoulder gravel and the milling of various county roads.

The work includes the placing of new asphalt pavement overlaying the existing asphalt surface which is a cost-efficient and long term option for repairing the roadway of minor surface damages such as cracks, rutting, depressions caused by large vehicles, poor drainage, and potholes.

On Feb. 3, the county received six submissions from contractors with the highest bidding coming from Coco Paving Inc. from Petersburg at $1.9 million, and the second lowest coming from The Murray Group from Moorefield at $1.61 million.

The funding will come from the roads capital reserve and the Canada Community Building fund. There is $1.8 million available coming from the grant funding, and $200,000 coming from the reserves.
