WELLINGTON COUNTY – Darren’s Day, a Family Day event in Wellington County, has been cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic.

The day is a celebration of community and family named after Darren More who was killed by an impaired driver in the summer of 2018.

Normally held on Family Day, the upcoming event is not moving ahead says a press release from Crime Stoppers Guelph-Wellington (CSGW).

CSGW program coordinator Sarah Bowers-Peter said in a press release that they were holding off this decision hoping the situation with the pandemic would improve but this no longer appears to be the case.

“There does not seem to be an opportunity for us to hold this event with the necessary public health guidelines,” Bowers-Peter said in a press release.

The last Darren’s Day event was held at the Palmerston Community Centre just weeks before the nation-wide shutdown.

It brought together community partners such as Minto Fire, Wellington County OPP, Town of Minto, Palmerston Marlins, Palmerston Lions Club, Minto 81s and CSGW.

“Darren’s Day is something our entire family enjoys and we are sorry to see it cannot go ahead for 2021,” said Pam More, widow of Darren, in a press release. “We hope everyone will keep Darren’s Day in mind for 2022.”
