FERGUS – This summer’s Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games will once again be virtual.

On Friday, festival organizers announced they have made the proactive decision to not host a live event for 2021.

“With careful consideration, we have acknowledged that a live event like our festival with crowds in the thousands is unrealistic in the current and unprecedented pandemic situation,” a press release states.

Last summer’s festival was also cancelled and switched to a virtual event called the Wee Digital Ceilidh.

A press release says this event was well received with virtual attendance matching in-person numbers.

Aug. 13 to 15 will be the second virtual Scottish Festival and Highland Games.

“Our virtual event will continue to bring guests the best the festival has to offer and will feature our four pillars – heavy events, highland dance, clans and heritage, and pipes and drums – as well as special features and festival favourites from through the years,” a press release states.

"Our priority continues to be the ongoing recovery efforts and ensuring that our guests, volunteers, competitors, performers, clans, sponsors, and community are safe and healthy so they can enjoy ‘Scotland without the Airfare’ well into the future."

Although virtual, the press release states if pandemic restrictions allow the festival will explore opportunities for modified live components.

The festival encourages keeping an eye on their website and social media channels for announcements and updates.
