PALMERSTON - Moorefield Excavating Ltd. has been awarded the contract for the Whites Road reconstruction project in Palmerston for $2.5 million.

Council awarded the contract to Moorefield Excavating Ltd. as they had the lowest bid for the tender.

“We received four submissions at the time of the closing of the tender which was on Dec. 16, and the lowest bid came from Moorefield. We’re all well aware of their work as they have done some of our larger projects over the years,” said Mike McIssac, roads and drainage manager.

“The cost associated with this tender works roughly around 55 per cent, which will be paid for by the county as well.”

Although it is a county road, the town is responsible for underground services and a portion of the water main needs repairs.

The total estimated cost of the Whites Road project is $3.7 million, with the County of Wellington’s share estimated at $1,745,000 and the Town of Minto’s share at $1,955,000.

The reconstruction includes upgrades to the sanitary sewers, watermain, storm, sidewalks and roads. The town is working with the County of Wellington to complete the project.
