CENTRE WELLINGTON - A rehabilitation project for a bridge located at Wellington Road 16 in the Township of Centre Wellington comes under budget.
At the March 8 county roads committee meeting, the committee approved the tender work for the rehabilitation of the Wellington Road 16 bridge to Engineered Concrete Limited of Kitchener in the amount of $980,000 – that’s $370,000 cheaper than the $1.35 million originally earmarked for the project in the county’s 2022 capital budget.
Work for the rehabilitation includes full and partial depth reconstruction of immediate approaches, removal of the concrete post and railing system, installing new concrete parapet walls, and steel beam guide rail upgrades.
The county received seven quotes from pre-qualified bridge and culvert contractors with Engineered Concrete Limited being the lowest bidder. The highest bid came from Jarlian Construction Inc. of Burlington in the amount of $872,788.90.
Canada Community Building Fund dollars will cover $900,000 of the total cost, while $20,000 will come from the roads committee reserve fund, and the remaining will come from the tax levy.
Once construction begins, the bridge will be closed off to the public, however, the detour route is still pending final approval by Centre Wellington.
County roads committee will present its recommendation for the tender work to the county council at its March 31 in-person meeting. If the county council approves, reconstruction can be anticipated to be completed in the fall of 2022.
