WELLINGTON COUNTY – A new map is highlighting Wellington County restaurants to give an assist in a tough period for the industry.

The Takeout Food in Wellington County shows locations offering ready-to-eat takeout food across all seven member municipalities.

A press release says this map was created by the county’s planning and economic development department to promote purchasing food from restaurants and businesses that have closed during the shut down.

“Restaurants and some food businesses have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic,” said George Bridge, economic development committee chair, in a press release.

“Ordering takeout food is a great way to support these businesses and keep them in our communities.”

The release says according to Restaurants Canada, almost half of small and medium-sized independent restaurants are in danger of permanently closing if conditions do not improve.

User can search by mealtime and the type of food they’re looking for.

To further promote the map and food options, users are encouraged to share photos of their food on social media and tagged with #takeoutwellington for a chance to win one of seven $50 gift cards to local restaurants.

The map and contest information can be found here. Businesses can be added or have their information edited through the website as well.
