WELLINGTON NORTH – Wellington North is the recipient of Connecting Links funding for a second year in a row, this time for a road in Mount Forest.

The province announced $1.4 million for reconstruction of Queen Street East/Highway 89 in Mount Forest.

Connecting Links funding supports municipalities to build, replace or repair roads and bridges connecting two ends of a provincial highway.

Up to 90 per cent of eligible project costs are covered through this funding.

"By investing in our roads and bridges we're connecting people to jobs, supporting the movement of goods and creating economic growth in local communities," said Caroline Mulroney, Minister of Transportation, in a press release.

"This funding not only helps municipalities maintain local infrastructure, but also supports projects that make roads safer, such as improvements to pedestrian crossings."

Last year the township received $1.7 million to resurface Highway 6 running through Arthur.

The Ontario government has invested $30 million toward 14 municipalities through this year’s Connecting Links program.

Wellington North mayor Andy Lennox said via email he was delighted to hear this news from the Ministry of Transportation.

He specified the section of Queen Street being reconstructed in this project stretches from the Main Street intersection out to White’s Bridge over the Saugeen River.

“This is a section of road in serious need of an upgrade and it is gratifying that the province agrees it is important both locally and for communities beyond our borders,” Lennox said.
