Community Builders Awards: Dr. Joan Chan named a leader in local health care sector

This year’s Health Care award winner is an innovator in health technology and a selfless volunteer in our community

Dr. Joan Chan is a well-respected leader in healthcare in Guelph and for good reason. She works extremely hard to improve community health care and provide superior and inclusive care to Guelphites.

Since joining the Guelph Family Health Team board, it has since expanded to include other Guelph residents. She also advocated successfully for the creation of a Patient and Family Advisory Committee to help physicians better support community needs.

In addition to her work in health care, she is a strong influence for equity, diversity and inclusivity work and co-chairs the Guelph Wellington Ontario Health Team’s work group on that topic.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was quick to embrace virtual care options so that no patient would suffer due to the impacts of shutdowns.

Beyond her skill as a physician in our community, Dr. Chan is committed to helping other doctors improve care by teaching them how to better use technology. She has been a voice and mentor for physicians throughout the pandemic, helping them embrace the changing healthcare landscape in the face of unprecedented uncertainty.

The Health Care Award is presented to a group that has had an important impact on the health care of the community.

Congratulations, Dr. Chan!

This award is proudly sponsored by GuelphToday.
