Public Health reports that there have been 31 confirmed COVID cases at Cargill Limited on Dunlop Drive as of Friday.

Another roughly 40 individuals are in isolation and considered "high risk contacts," a news release from Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health said Friday evening.

"This week, WDG Public Health has been working with Cargill to investigate and mitigate an outbreak of COVID-19 at their facility. As of December 11 there are 31 confirmed cases and approximately 40 additional high risk contacts in isolation," said Public Health spokesperson Danny Williamson.

"This is an ongoing investigation. While case management is underway and the risk to the public should generally be considered low, there is a risk of indirect spread to the community from this outbreak."

Working with Cargill, Public Health has instigated the following measures to control the spread and resolve the outbreak:

- A complete IPAC (infection prevention and control) inspection of the plant

- Testing for all of the staff in the affected area of the plant

"No actions are required by members of the public unless contacted by Public Health," Williamson said in the release.
