As of Friday morning, 61 students at the University of Guelph have tested positive for COVID-19.

On Monday, the number of positive cases was 32.

Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health reported 287 active COVID-19 cases in Guelph on Friday. One in five of those cases are related to the university.

The numbers were confirmed by WDG Public Health and are all from the outbreak declared on Jan 21 which was connected to two social gatherings that took place on Jan. 15 and Jan. 16 in the East Village Townhouses. As of Tuesday, 200 students were isolating.

On Wednesday, the university announced that anyone violating university, government, and Public Health protocols will face penalties that could include a provincial fine of $880 under the Reopening Ontario Act.

It also added that students living on campus may face eviction from residence for violating COVID-19 safety measures which include anything from failure to wear a mask, holding social gatherings and failing to social distance.
