PALMERSTON– A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Palmerston and District Hospital (PDH).

Five cases have been identified with four inpatients and one staff testing positive.

A press release form North Wellington Health Care (NWHC) stated in response to the outbreak at PDH obstetrical services will be temporarily redirected. OB patients at PDH should check with their physician to determine the best care plan.

The emergency department, diagnostic imaging, ambulatory care, and day surgery services (not requiring hospital admission) remain open but NWHC asks those with appointments to call ahead to confirm appointments.

There will be no inpatient visiting permitted at this time beyond special circumstances.

The hospital is working with public health to respond to the outbreak including testing and enhanced cleaning.

“Staff and physicians at PDH have been working around the clock to care for all patients,” said NWHC CEO Stephen Street, in a press release. “To say they are remarkable does not begin to cover the outstanding care, compassion and work they are providing to our community residents.”
