June Hofland.

GuelphToday asked those running for city council in the Oct. 22 municipal election to supply a brief biography and outline their platform and/or why they are running.

THE PERSON: June was born and raised in Guelph and lives in Ward 3, where she and her husband Peter have spent 25 years renovating their home and garden.

June spent most of her professional career in the banking industry. She has the proven skills to analyze the numbers and an indepth understanding of the city finances. She built a thriving Wellness Centre in downtown Guelph, which she sold in 2012. Having owned a small business for 12 years she understands the challenges of operating a small business.

Peter and June have operated a local renovation company for over 30 years.

June believes Guelph needs strong, experienced representatives who know how to build a diverse, resilient and prosperous city, support strong, vibrant neighbourhoods and care for our environment.

She is a well-known advocate for people living in poverty and is passionate about creating a city where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

June has always championed transit, helping to implement the affordable bus pass. Being an active seasonal cyclist, she believes Guelph needs to be a place where a well-connected transportation system includes reliable transit, biking, walking and an abundance of trails.

June is an experienced leader with a strong commitment to work with community partners in transitioning to a low- carbon and climate-resilient city.

In the upcoming months, there will be a lot of passionate discussion on issues affecting Ward 3 and the greater community.  June is committed to running a positive campaign and happy to participate in thoughtful debate.

In an effort to solicit your views on issues, June will continue the campaign tradition of knocking on doors throughout Ward 3 this fall.
