The following letter to the editor was submitted by reader M.F. Clark in response to an earlier letter to the editor, 'Let's not build Toronto-style highrises here'.

I agree completely with the letter from Shelia Mclelland about the plan to build high rises taller than five stories. That height would be ideal but unfortunately that horse has already left the barn.

Having established the much too high maximum already at 18 stories why would the city allow anything beyond that? If an another exception is made then the next proposed buildings will be even higher and in no time you would have a tall barrier of high rises around the downtown blocking light, creating wind tunnels, dark shadows and an unfriendly hostile atmosphere.

This is not Guelph. Yet. Is there an overall plan for the downtown area? What about the environment? What about the negative impact of cars in the downtown? Make decisions for a better future. Keep the down town livable a human scale, not a poor replica of the bad living conditions in Toronto.

M.F. Clark
