GuelphToday received the following letter to the editor from reader Alta Greenway regarding the state of Guelph's healthcare system in agreement with an earlier letter on the subject.

Dear editor

After reading Mr. Ferraro's letter I would like to say that I strongly agree with him. Having lived in Guelph for about 40+ years and now living in Elora, I have used the Guelph General Hospital on many occasions and been treated very well. However when I see the wait periods for emerg, etc., along with the population increase, I wonder how staff at the hospital can perform without severe pressure. Folks are waiting for surgeries, etc.

I too believe it is time for another hospital in the city. St. Joe"s no longer is a viable general hospital.

Guelph has a perfect setting for a new facility. This is on York Street where the old reformatory is located. The grounds are there, there is much space for extending or rebuilding the new hospital. Why even try to locate another location? It is a perfect spot. This is a great site and the government should be happy to use the land for this purpose. Guelph really needs a new hospital...so let's get on with it!

Sincerely,
Alta Greenway
