GuelphToday received the following letter to the editor from reader Michael McMurray about the dairy research centre at University in University of Guelph.

I am heartened to hear that the University of Guelph is to receive increased funding to support research in the the dairy industry and related fields.

This substantial Canadian industry is a key contributor to the Canadian economy through employment and taxation, as well as by supplying a crucial product in our food supply chain. High quality milk produced in a safe, humane, regulated environment is a hallmark of the Canadian dairy system.

That the University of Guelph is to be the recipient of this funding speaks to the high regard in which this institution is held by regulatory bodies as well and the industry itself. Guelph's historical connection with agriculture, with a strong local farming community, and through the O.A.C., and other colleges at the University of Guelph, has contributed to the creation of the strong, vibrant community that we know today.
