LETTER: If only Metrolinx would show some compassion

GuelphToday received the following letter from a reader critical of how Metrolinx treats communities its trains run through.

I have lived by the railroad tracks in Guelph most of my life. Metrolinx seems to take the approach of making plans with no regard for the impact on local communities they are running through.

We are forced to accept their plans. Here on Kent Street it used to be, "train is coming" and kids rush out to say hello to the engineer or the people on the train. That seems lost now. The high speed trains through our little heart of downtown creates some serious issues. Derailment....catastrophe..the fatalities of the lost ones on the track ....The impact of the neighbours of the track.

I understand the goal of shifting folks from Waterloo to Toronto, but where does Metrolinx show their sensitivity and action to preserve the the nature of the communities they presently seem to run roughshod over? Imagine if they actually took that into account and adjusted their schedules and goals. Council, Mayor.Cam Guthrie, what can you do to preserve this essential element of Guelph and people you represent?
