LETTER: Let's retrofit current libraries, not build a new one

We all need to think what is really needed in the city and how much the upkeep is to maintain the facilities we now have, reader says

GuelphToday recevied the following letter to the editor from reader Laurie Jones in response to a letter published on Oct. 21, 'We need that new library.'

Reading a letter from Jess Clausen regarding the building of a new public library downtown. First off congratulations on obtaining a PHD. Not sure what that has to do with the library or the funding and building. Having knowledge of finances, construction, needs of the downtown of Guelph and many other skills.

Libraries are scattered all around our city that can be accessed by most residents. Putting money into the existing library may be less then building a new one. It could be retrofitted state of the art. Anytime I go into that library parking has not been an issue and it is not very busy. Which most likely means it is not being used very much.

We all need to think what is really needed in the city and how much the upkeep is to maintain the facilities we now have.
