LETTER: Where is all the affordable housing we hear so much about?

'Who can call affordable a half-million dollar condo?'

GuelphToday received the following letter giving credit to city council for its concern about development in the city's south end.

I read the letter someone sent about council/city being in the way of progress and I would like to emphasize that what the city is looking for is intelligent growth.
Guelph is a city that relies on underground water; it is not that we are 'just a bunch of tree huggers.'

I keep hearing let's build for affordable housing. Have you seen any? All I see is that we keep building and destroying wetland and farmland, grocery prices increasing because of less farmland nearby, and each year house prices go up 10-15 per cent.

Who can call affordable a half-million dollar condo?

Developers and government have abused this slogan for years. I see no affordable housing anywhere, less forest, less water, less farmland, irreparable damage to ecosystems, and we keep saying, "Lets build so we can have affordable housing." I am telling you, it has been 10 years of this and I am yet to find the "affordability" on this madness.

As for the council being concerned about building in the south end, I applaud them looking after our future and our kids future.
