11 arrested in ongoing property crime, drug investigation

A total of 54 Criminal Code and CDSA charges were laid

The community has provided ongoing support and information to the Guelph Police Service regarding suspicious activity involving property crime and drug use in the area of Ferguson Street and Alice Street.

Due to this information and ongoing police investigations, members of the High Enforcement Action Team (HEAT) initiated a project to target this criminal activity in the Ferguson Street and Alice Street area. With the ongoing support from the community and police investigations, this lead to identifying two residences being involved in this criminal activity.

On Oct. 21, 2016 in the early morning hours members of the HEAT Unit, GPS and WRPS Tactics and Rescue Unit conducted separate search warrants at two residences.

A total of 11 persons were arrested with a combination of 54 Criminal Code and CDSA charges being laid. The charges laid in this investigation are:

    •    Possession of stolen property over $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000
    •    Possession of CDSA (marijuana, crystal meth, hydro morphine and morphine)
    •    Breach probation
    •    Breach recognizance

Also seized in the search warrants were a large number of bicycles, bicycle parts, electronics, identity documents and replica firearms.

The Guelph Police Service would ask members of the community to report any stolen property online with the Service.
The investigation is still ongoing and further charges are pending.
