Two local schools are in the midst of declared COVID-19 outbreaks – a public elementary school and a French Catholic elementary school.
An outbreak was declared at École élémentaire Catholique Saint-René-Goupil on Wednesday, followed by one at June Avenue Public School on Thursday.
Under provincial guidelines, school outbreaks are declared when there are two or more lab-confirmed cases within a school with an epidemiological link within a 14-day period, with at least one infection having been acquired in the school.
According to the French school board's website, Saint-René-Goupil has 13 confirmed cases that are considered active, all among students, with several of the cases involving students already in self isolation.
At June Avenue, there are three confirmed cases among students, in addition to a staff member.
