On Saturday, the team at the Guelph Lawn Bowling Club met to celebrate their $15,300 Resilient Communities Fund grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) that was used to support the development of Indoor Short Mat Bowling.

“Congratulations to the Guelph Lawn Bowling Club for receiving the Resilient Communities Fund grant,” said Mike Schreiner, MPP for Guelph. “For 185 years, the Guelph Lawn Bowling Club has helped to foster a sense of community in Guelph, promoted outdoor recreation, and provided a community space for people to come together and share their love of bowling. The Guelph Bowling Club is a staple in our community, and this grant will give them the opportunity to provide Indoor Short Mat Bowling so they can continue their activities all year round. I want to thank the Guelph Bowling Club and their continued commitment to promoting healthy living and community participation. Congratulations on this well-deserved grant!”

The Guelph Lawn Bowling Club is celebrating its 185th year of operations this year, and for the first time, with the support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, they will be able to offer bowling year-round. Indoor Short Mat Bowling is an increasingly popular version of the venerable outdoor game. The grant provides the club with the necessary funds to purchase the equipment needed to run an Indoor Short Mat Bowling program for Guelphites.

“This grant which was so graciously provided by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, provides Guelphites and club members with the opportunity to continue bowling throughout the year,” voiced Blake, president of the Guelph Lawn Bowling Club. “Every year, as summer turns to autumn and our days grow shorter, we have to pack up our bowls and prepare for the long, dark time before we can gather again. We are so grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for providing us with the opportunity to continue to gather and bowl together throughout the year. We would also like to congratulate the Ontario Trillium Foundation for its ongoing success in providing funding support to communities throughout Ontario.”

The Guelph Lawn Bowling Club is an inclusive, supportive, and welcoming space where Guelphites and people from across Ontario are able to come and learn to Lawn Bowl. The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), an agency of the Government of Ontario and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations, celebrates 40 years of grant-making in Ontario and making a lasting impact in communities. Last year, OTF invested over $110M into 1,022 community projects and partnerships, which included funding for the Government of Ontario’s Community Building Fund. Visit otf.ca to learn more.
