Guelph native Scott Van Doormaal and his Laura, an Elmira native, took to social media to try and raise funds for a needed but expensive procedure their baby daughter needed to survive.
Social media responded in a big way.
After raising over $2.4 million through a GoFundMe page and an undisclosed amount via supporters hosting private fundraisers toward the $3 million medical procedure, the parents announced that their daughter had been randomly selected by the drug company AveXis, to receive the potentially life-saving treatment for free through its Managed Access Program (MAP).
